Inter Clubs Cross Country

The Woodie’s DIY Inter Club cross country championships took place today at the Charleville Estate course in Tullamore. Conditions were surprisingly good with firm ground due to the recent cool breezy dry spell and a well laid out course. There were four well contested Junior and Senior races. Mary Cullen (North Sligo AC) was the clear winner of the senior event by 36 seconds, and continuing her great form since her comeback.

Colette Tuohy was our only runner  and she finished 33rd of the 64 finishers. As she said afterwards “my legs felt tired and heavy and I was behind a number of girls I would normally beat”. As results have shown, Colette has done the club proud over the past year on the road and cross country. No doubt she will be looking ahead to the National 10k in April – a number of local races are coming up in the next few weeks. In the other races there were excellent performances by some local club athletes. Roger Barrett (Ballina AC) was 12th in the Senior men’s race won by Sergio Ciobanu (Clonliffe Harriers). His clubmate Hugh Armstrong finished 2nd in the Junior men’s race. Swinford AC were 4th club in the Junior women event, with Rosie Hynes 6th and Aoife Mulroy 9th supported by Dara Sherry, Ayse Terzioglu, Dawn Regan and Aoife McCann.
