Hugh Armstrong runs new marathon pb in Seville

In today’s Sevilla Marathon Kevin Seward (St Malachy’s AC) made an incredible 3 minute improvement on Berlin last September to become the third Irish man to qualify for Tokyo.

His 2:10.09 finish ensured that he joins Paul Pollock and Stephen Scullion. Seward passed halfway in 65.25 and a great second half negative split got him over the line in a new pb.
He improved on his previous best of 2:13:39 and is now 2nd fastest Irish man behind John Treacy’s 2:09:15.
Well done Hugh Armstrong (Ballina AC) who was also at halfway in 65.26 and he came home in a brilliant new personal best 2:12.26 in only his second marathon.
He’s now just a minute off the Tokyo qualifying time.
The winner of this ‘World Marathon Gold Label’ race was Merkuant Gebre (ETH) in a new course record of 2:04.46 –  the fastest marathon so far in 2020.
Juliet Chekwei won the women’s race in 2:23.13.
