On the opposite side of the world to her native Belmullet,
Sinéad Diver (South Melbourne AC) continued her successful season with a significant win on the road in the Paradise Run 14k last Saturday in Victoria. This race is part of an annual Great Ocean Road Marathon (GORM) event, also comprising marathon, half, 6k. In a field of 979, she finished first woman and an excellent fifth overall in 46:14, in a race won in 42:41. That’s zipping along at 3:18 per k.
Sinéad said she was happy with her race which came after a few over cross country in recent weeks, as reported here. She also said she was glad to be back on her ‘preferred terrain’.
Sinéad and her coach Tim Crosbie have their fingers crossed ahead of an imminent meeting of Australian Athletics who will decide on the women’s team to compete in the marathon at the World Athletics Championships in Beijing in August. Her next race is the Gold Coast Half marathon in a few weeks. Thanks to Tim – he runs the club’s Crosbie Crew – for these photos of
Sinéad and her clubmates wearing her Mayo AC singlet.

Meanwhile in Dublin on Sunday, Mary Cullen had a great win in the Terenure 5 mile in 26:28. It’s good to see Mary follow up on her return to competition recently at Ballymote 5k. Well done to our Paula Prendergast who was 10th woman home in 32:24.
