It was the long road to Louth yesterday morning for our four masters crossing the Shannon and Boyne en route to the grounds of the Institute of Technology Dundalk for the National Intermediate and Masters Cross Country Championships.
The backdrop to the course is of the Cooley Mountains. The masters race was preceded by ten youngster’s events. Our four competed as individuals in their respective categories and combined to make the W50 team.
According to Mags Glavey “the weather was good compared to last few days. Misty rain and no wind. Good running conditions. Very big ‘field’ of runners. One 1k and 2 x 1 and a half loops”
Colette Tuohy was competing in her first race in W50 which had thirty eight finishers – a very competitive field and she ran a great race to come home third. Pauline Moran claimed another gold winning W60 with another excellent performance ahead of eight in that category. Mags Glavey won the W65 race to add another gold to her tally. Well done to Ann Murray too, finishing 22nd in the W50. She combined with Colette, Pauline and Mags to win W50 team silver behind City of Derry Spartans.
2019 National Masters Cross Country medals:
Individual: Colette Tuohy W50 bronze, Pauline Moran W60 gold, Mags Glavey W65 gold
W50 Team silver – Colette, Ann, Pauline, Mags
It’s an excellent start to our 2019 National medal campaign – four members competing and all returning with medals – congratulations all!
Good running too by Anto Devaney who clocked 32:30 in the Maree 8k on Sunday.
