Colette leads Women’s Masters team to success in Derry
It was another good day for the club at the National Masters Cross Country Championships held in Gransha Park, Derry on Sunday afternoon.
Not for the first time our women athletes put the year’s first medals on the table and continued a formidable club record. For the second year in succession Colette Tuohy led them to that table where they won three individual medals and were second and third in the club team and County team sections respectively.
The 4k women’s race over a fast course provided an identical top 3 to the event at Lough Key in 2012: 1st Pauline Curley W40 (Tullamore Harriers), 2nd Mary Scully W40 (Mullingar Harriers) and Colette Tuohy a brilliant W40 bronze medal and in overall third place. It was a great performance by Colette and is a new record for the club in this competition. Angela O’Connor finished 11th and 3rd W45 (4th last year). Pauline Moran finished 29th, just ahead of Breege Blehein (W45) in 30th, and was first in the W55 category – Derrygold! – a great run after her 2012 4th place. In the club team section they finished 3rd and in the Inter County team category they were second well supported by Anne Curley (Donore Harriers) who was 5th overall and Amanda Hynes (Swinford AC).
