Good luck to Mayo AC runners in National Dublin Marathon
Good luck to all of our Mayo AC runners in the 41st edition of the Dublin Marathon on Sunday.
Since 2003, the event has also doubled as the Irish National Marathon.
It’s been three years — or 1,098 days to be exact since the last edition in 2019, when Mayo AC had 73 finishers among the 17,729 who crossed the line at Merrion Square.
This year there are 31 members – 11 women and 20 men – listed to run. There are first timers, and experienced marathoners among them – and about 2/3 of them completed the race in 2019.
The hard training and race pace preparation has been done over recent months.
Now the clock is counting down to when they will line up at the 0845 a.m on Sunday morning among the various start waves.
We hope they all enjoy the atmosphere and unique experience of this classic event, and achieve their individual goals.
With remembrance ribbons pinned to their singlets, Mayo AC runners will be invoking the memory of our friend and clubmate Micheal McNeela RIP.
His many achievements included three Dublin finishes. In 2015 he improved his 2014 time by 15 minutes for a 3:14 pb and a negative split! And in 2019 he ran 3:23.
His wonderful life in athletics and these results are sure to inspire our runners on Sunday, and raise their spirits whenever the going gets tough along the 26.2 miles.
Also on Sunday,, the third leg of Mayo Cross-Country league takes place at Mellet’s Hill Swinford. Good luck to members competing.
Safe travel everyone and Best of luck to all Mayo AC competitors this weekend!
