The Galway Half Marathon took place Saturday morning.
The race winner was Michael Shannon (Kilnaboy AC) 69.48.
A Mayo AC team finished second to Sportsworld AC in the women’s team section. The team were led home by another excellent run by Mary Gleeson 80.17, who finished in 12th place and second woman behind winner Pauline Curley (Tullamore Harriers) 79.11.
The rest of the team repeated the form they showed in winning medals
at the National Half Marathon last month. Colette Tuohy finishing 7th
woman ran a personal best – 85.52 – , closely followed by Kathy
Connolly 9th in 87.15 and Chris Gallagher 16th in 94.02.
Other Mayo AC finishers were Michael McNeela 88.29, Sean Murphy 90.34,
Una McGrath 112.38, Patricia Carty 113.32. Results taken from those published in Irish Independent (Mon 3rd Oct) with the added proviso “as starting times were slightly staggered – time recorded using a ‘chip’ system – there are some discrepancies between finishing times and final placings”.
North Sligo AC hosted the Annual Grange 10k on Sunday. It was the
final race of the Sligo Credit Union Road League. A traditional value
for money race – ‘for runners by runners’. The one lap course has a
few climbs in the first half but makes up for it with a fast final 3k
finishing at the Sports Centre and race HQ.. 184 finishers, not chip
timed but the results were up on their website straight away. Hot
showers, plenty refreshments, category and spot prizes.
