Wonderful news for three Mayo AC members – Pauline Moran W65, Norah Newcombe Pietrese W40 and Mags Glavey W70 – who have been selected on the Irish Masters Cross-Country team.
This follows Sunday’s Open Autumn races at Abbotstown, which included a trial for selection of the Irish team to compete in the annual British and Irish Masters Cross Country Championships to be hosted by Scotland at Tollcross Park, Glasgow on November 11.
As reported previously – category winner Pauline will lead the W65 team.
Norah is in W40 team having finished a brilliant third place in that competitive category in the trial race.
Mags was unable to run in trial race, but as rules allow she was selected following submission of a “wild card’ plus recent form evidence and will be a key member of W70 crew again.
Angela O’Connor was a close fourth in W55 category and deservedly earned her fourth place in the team.
However, an unfortunate error in the selection process resulted in her losing the fourth F55 team place.
She is now listed as first substitute should there be a dropout.
Our three Glasgow-bound masters are all experienced campaigners.
They have played a key part in the Irish success at the annual five nations competition over many years.
They will have opportunities to prepare for Glasgow at the two upcoming Connacht Championship Senior/masters events – Leg 2 on Sunday next October 22 at Westport, and Leg 3 on November 5 at Ballymote.
The full selection for Glasgow published by Irish Master Athletes Association is posted here separately.
