Pauline Moran was scheduled to compete this evening in heat 1 of two W60 800m heats in the European Masters championships at Stadio Armando Picchi in Jesolo.
She had opted not to start in Tuesday’s W60 10,000 metres final which was won in 42:57.
The 10,000m European record is held by the great Angela Copson (GBR) who ran 39:44 in Oxford in 2009.
Sixteen runners were entered in the two W60 800m heats. Pauline had the fastest declared time of the runners in her heat – 2:43.
However, as four of the sixteen did not declare, the heats were cancelled and the remaining twelve will go forward directly to the final on Friday.
As a result she will have gained an extra rest day and more time to relax and enjoy the Venetian Riviera weather – a sunny pleasant 25C today at Jesolo and set to get warmer.
The W60 800m world and European record is held by Lidia Zentner (GER) who ran 2:33.09 in 2013.
