Defibrillator installed at Castlebar Greenway

We are delighted to report that a defibrillator has been installed  at The Bike Clinic at the start of The Greenway Castlebar.

There was a gathering of those involved to celebrate the happy event on Tuesday last May 14.

The event followed great work by Colette Tuohy who has been active over recent weeks organising and facilitating the installation.

A big Thank You to Paul Kilcourse of The Bike Clinic who kindly agreed to have the defibrillator installed outside his shop. It’s an ideal location adjacent to the entrance to the Castlebar Greenway.

The defibrillator and accessories was funded and installed on the proceeds from the New Year Eve 5k (Michael McNeela run)  on the Castlebar Greenway. The run took place with great help from Scoil Raifteirí – míle buiochas daoibh –  which is also near the Greenway.

It was purchased from Darren Forde and installed thanks to John Jennings Mayo AC.

It is well recognised that it’s both vital and essential to have AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators) in public places  and areas where large numbers of people gather. Having an AED in these places can mean the difference between life and death. The faster the defibrillation occurs, the better the chances of survival.
