Brickens 5k women’s winner Colette Tuohy – her fourth win in the series

(updated 24/06 to include additional full series results breakdown from Precision Timing – see below)       Brickens provided the backdrop to the final race of another successful Mayo AC Vodafone Summer 5k series on Tuesday evening. It was the third running of the Brickens 5k race and there were 186 finishers. Conditions were humid and overcast and midges were lining the hedges of the newly measured out and back course.The Brickens organisers had all the key points well marshalled and the event went smoothly from registration to finish line.

David Tiernan won for the third time in the series in 17:14, and Colette Tuohy who also dominated the series women section was first woman home for the fourth time in 18:45 following her fast winning time in the Annaghdown 10k on Sunday evening. These two and the Brickens other top men and women finishers held podium positions in most of the 5ks. Sean Murphy and Sean Brophy had another battle for the line. It was the same with Mary and Kathy Gleeson and it was good to see them both returning to racing with enthusiasm. Well done to all finishers at Brickens and at all the other venues.

At the After Party celebrations in Flanagan’s Gastro Pub, all of the race winners were presented with prizes. David Tiernan for Ballyhaunis, Castlebar, and Brickens, Sean Murphy for Claremorris, and Sean McLoughlin for Ballinrobe. And to Colette Tuohy for Claremorris, Castlebar, Ballinrobe and Brickens, and Edel Reilly for Ballyhaunis.

Prizes were also presented to the Most Improved runners in the 5 race Series – a random draw based on Precision Timing results: Katie Concannon, Agatha Mullee, Rachel Birmingham, Linda Heneghan, Aine Ruane, Susan Heneghan, Kerry Burke, Niamh Costello, Nathy Gilligan, Linda Connolly.

David Tiernan won the raffle prize – a meal for two at Flanagan’s. Various spot prizes were also drawn.

Michael McGrath thanked all who helped with the Brickens race – Stewards, Order of Malta, Gardai, sponsors Vodafone, the Events Committee and all who organised at the other venues. He also thanked Flanagan’s for hosting the After Party.
