Darren Brewer on fire in the Burren
Darren Brewer is among a number of members known to enjoy trail running.Yesterday morning he took on the Burren Challenge – one of three races (marathon, half, and 10k) across that spectacular and unique landscape.
Like last year, he chose the marathon course which starts and finishes at Ballyvaughan. It is a half on, half off-road route with a few tough mountain climbs and some spectacular views of the Aran islands and across Galway Bay
Today Darren finished 9th in a brilliant 3:28.32.
Last year he completed the race in 3:54 and 24th place, so that’s a massive improvement.

In context, he did run with clubmate Colin Clancy last year, both finishing in same time.
Darren ran 1:30.30 in the National Half in 2019. On yesterday’s form looks like he’s heading for some great times this summer.

2023 Burren Marathon Winner was Christian Jeuken 2:46.27- he also won last year 3:07.42, first woman Mary Kelly 3:41.42
