County Galway 5k Series – Kilcornan Results

Kilcornan was the location for the final race of six in the 2022 County Galway 5k Series which took place Tuesday evening (May 31).

Tadgh Hanrahan ran 17:45 for 6th place. He finished in the same time last week for 14th place in Athenry.

Tadgh completed the first series race in Tuam in 18:07, and ran Loughrea in 17:51.

Tony O’Malley also finished off the series with a fine run – 18:56 23rd place.
His other Series times were Caltra 18:52, Craughwell 19:03, Loughrea 18:50.
Well done Tadgh and Tony – both ran consistently good times in the Series over a variety of courses.

This was the 17th year of County Galway 5k series which has been running since 2006 when there were four races.

It is an initative of the Galway Athletic Clubs. Over 6 Tuesday nights, a 5km race is organised by one of the athletic clubs across the county.

The format is simple – one race number covers the entire series. No prizes are awarded, but anyone who completes 4 of the 6 races gets a souvenir race t-shirt.

After the last race, a social night is organised by the final host club.

The series has exploded in popularity over the years, to the point where entry sells out in a matter of minutes.

All proceed of the 5k series goes to fund juvenile and adult athletics in Galway.
