A wet day at the Bushfield course made for a testing race in this the first of three legs in the league.
It was real cross country weather according to one experienced club coach. There were four races before the women’s 4k started but the course was generally firm. One short lap and two long made it 4.2k.
Colette Tuohy said “a very good cross country course, it had the hills, part flat, part tough, and of course water on the surface in a couple of places” . She was delighted with her run and worked hard to finish second of 35 finishers in the women’s race and first of masters.
Pauline Moran finished 11th, Angela O’Connor 17th, Ann Murray 20th, Angela McVann 33rd all ran well in support. They were joined by Tom Hunt who finished 24th – o65 men had the option to run in 4k event.
Our three men ran in the Senior event over 5 long laps, approximately 8k – Neil Carroll running as Novice , Darren Brewer and Padraic McVann in masters category .
The field of 37 were well strung out after the first of five long laps. On the second lap Darren Brewer took a heavy tumble on a short sharp downhill section which temporarily floored him, but he was soon up and on his way supported by Padraic. Neil Carroll in 22nd was well up in the field and although isolated towards the end he stuck to the task and was followed home by Darren 33rd with Padraic behind 34th.
Well done to all of our finishers. Some photos will be on our facebook pages.
The next two legs are on November 4 and 11. Details on Events menu
