There was a grand turnout at our our End of Season Party held in the Dalton Inn, Claremorris on Saturday night. We were there to celebrate another successful year and to make presentations to some of our medal winning individuals and teams.
In addition, there were presentations to our 2017 Vodafone C&C Cellular Club League prize winners. Padraic and Angela McVann were the overall winners of the men’s and women’s 2017 competition respectively. They’ve both been consistent and dedicated league contenders since its inception Angela retained the title she won last year – a remarkable achievement of commitment and performance, Padraic won the o40 category last year and went one step further in 2017. Congratulations to both. A full list of 2017 Club League winners posted recently is here https://www.mayoac.com/
We also celebrated the successes and achievements at our numerous National, Provincial, and International 2017 medal winners on road, track and cross country. These included the National 10k, half marathon and marathon, and our Derry quartet were there to show off their International Cross Country medals won a couple of weeks ago. Mary Murphy received her F65 marathon bronze – the only Mayo runner to win a national marathon medal this year.
Fifteen Mayo AC members as individuals and in teams won a total of 62 National/International medals in 2017 – 48 on road and track and 14 over cross country. They will receive well deserved recognition again at the Annual Mayo Co Board Athletics Awards next February.
Well done to Trisha, PJ, Maria and John who organised the event, including the traditional raffle and thanks too to the Dalton Inn, Claremorris for the party food and facilities.
