April Catch up.. . and Nat 10k teams
On Easter Monday last, two days after running the Kilmovee 10k, a couple of lads went up the N17/15 and took part in the 9th Annual Carney 10k on much tougher course. Liam Feely won in 33.08, with Tubber winner Carina Clarke first woman in 38:24. Our lads did well – Colm Cleary finished in 42:15, 14 seconds faster than Kilmovee. He is making great progress this season against the sub 40 clock. John Geraghty ran 47:34, a few seconds down on K’vee, and still trying to shake off a clingy Craughwell 10 cold.
Saturday 6th April: Well done to Timmie Glavey who headed down the N18 and ran a great race in Cratloe 10k – first home in a time of 34:48. He says “I’m happy with the win and finishing time as it was a hilly course, and hoping to build on this. This run was my fastest in over a year. I ran my 10k pb 33:31 in Annaghdown a couple of years ago, although it seems a lifetime ago!”
In the Connemarathon Ultra on Sunday 7th April Claremorris based Aine Gallagher finished 7th woman and 59th overall in a time of 6hrs 06. Having apparently led the women’s field for the first 23 miles and achieving a PB Half marathon time enroute, the strong headwind took its toll over the last 17 miles. This was her first run over this distance. She has run less than half dozen competitive races so far. The experience will hopefully encourage her for the future .
Next Sunday April 14th, the National 10k is on in the Phoenix Park. Women race at 1.10 with men following half hour later chasing Kenenise Bekele who ran a course record last year in 27:49. We have a 23 strong squad competing with the women looking most likely to feature among the medals. A bus for team members will be leaving Balla on Sunday at 7.30am and going through Claremorris. All wishing to travel on it please confirm by text to Ann McDonnell 086-8635534 by Thursday night at latest. Those making their own travel arrangements are asked to meet for registration /team talk beside start area at 11.45am in Phoenix Park.
