Castlebar Duathlon, Carrowholly 5k success

Short course relay winners Sean O'Malley and Mairead Cafferkey

Relay winners: Sean O’Malley and  Mairead Cafferkey

March 14, Castlebar Duathlon:   There were podium finishes for a number of members. John Byrne finished first in the 37k long course version which included 3 runs of 3.5, 8, 3.5k as well as bike ride. John’s strong running was the key, and a borrowed bike  helped him to victory. Our other winner was Mairéad Cafferkey who combined with Sean O’Malley to come home first in the short course mixed relay section over 22k. Mairéad ran two 3.5ks. It’s good to see her come back strongly from injury layoff. She has been at our Thursday evening track sessions with Matt – good to see so many achieve improved results since the sessions started early last month. There was continued success for Ann Heaney who finished second woman individual over the short course. In the long course, Reiltin Shaw came home third, and Jimmy Feeney was first over 50. Well done too to Barbara Ronayne, Patricia Kavanagh, Siobhan Ryan, Danny Green, Damien Glackin, Gerry Corley, Angela McVann, Padraic McVann and Susan Heneghan who also completed the courses.

Sunday 15th March, Carrowholly 5k: We had three finishers in top ten – well done to Brendan Gill second in 17:30, Colette Tuohy women’s race winner in 18:50 and Paul Reynolds who came home in 19:42
