Some Mayo AC finishers at Carra Classic 8k
The 7th Annual Seamus Corbett Memorial Carra Classic 8k fun run and walk took place today in Carnacon.
For Mayo AC members it was also the first event in their 2020 club league. The rain held off during this popular event and many finishers were rewarded with pbs.
Congratulations to race winner Dan Charleton (Castlebar) who crossed the line in 27:37. Dan finished second last year in 29:13 – a significant improvement. Robert Malseed was second in 29:26. Mayo AC newcomer Patrick O’Dowd and Francis Cryan had an exciting battle over the final metres and finished joint third – a dead heat in 29:35
Regina Casey was the clear winner of the women’s race in 30:09 – her third successive victory in Carnacon. Mayo AC filled the second and third places. Colette Colette Tuohy finished in 31:31 – half a minute faster than her second place last year, and Angela O’Connor 33:28.
Tom Prendergast was our other prizewinner claiming first place in the M50 category in 30:28 and showing no ill effects after his M50 win in yesterday’s Kinvara half.

Patrick O’Dowd and Colette Tuohy collected top points in the club league.
The next event in the league is the National 10k championships, which is followed by two more 10ks at Kilmovee and Foxford – all three races in April.
Mags Donovan led the local community team in this excellently organised event and Ann Corbett presented the prizes.
The race was well supported by a host of local sponsors and all finishers received a goodie bag – excellent value for €10 entry fee.
There were 109 runners and walkers. All finishers had welcome nourishment after the event at the prize presentations in the Community Centre.
