Canty and Gleeson win at De Care Dental Claremorris 8k
The 15th Annual De Care Dental Claremorris 8k took place on Sunday morning. It was also a target race in the 2016 Mayo AC Vodafone C&C Cellular Club League and most of those at the top of the tables were in action. Points tables will be updated during the week. The 8k newly measured one lap course starting at the track replaced the 5 mile route which was used previously and started in the town centre. Conditions were warm and sunny and the water stations were busy. Michael Canty from recently formed Ballina based Moy Valley AC was the winner two minutes clear of John Byrne in second with Sean Burke third. Local athlete Kathy Gleeson has had a very successful year so far and she was first woman home in a close finish just six seconds ahead of Ann Lennon, with Sarah Syron third. Mayo AC were well represented among the 97 finishers and won most of the category prizes. There was a colourful display by many runners wearing the De Care Dental race t-shirts. Proceeds from the event go to Cancer Care West. Maureen Walsh CEO De Care Dental thanked all who helped organise the race on and off the course and with refreshments at the prize presentation. Maureen finished the race in just over 44 minutes and presented the winners with their prizes. There are some photos on our facebook pages, thanks to David Huane.
The next Club League race is the Ballyhaunis 8k on Sunday September 25.
