Bronze for Masters Women

Mayo AC masters women: l-r: Collette Tuohy, Ann Murray,
Chris Gallagher, Angela o’Connor

After a week-end of rain it was mud, glorious mud all the way for masters athletes competing in the National Championships in Dublin on Sunday. Annette Kealy (Raheny Shamrock) was crowned queen of the quagmire in the 4k women’s race.
In the stamina sapping conditions, Mayo AC’s over 40 team performed brilliantly. Collette Tuohy ran strongly from the start and led the team home in brilliant style in a magnificent 7th place and a close 4th in the V1 o40 age category.
AngelaO’Connor ran a typically gritty race to finish 11th and won bronze in the V2 o45 category. Mayo AC’s highest placed runner in this event last year was 16th. Ann Murray’s experience helped Chris Gallagher in her first cross-country race and they helped the team finish in brilliant bronze medal position in inter-county and 4th in a closely fought inter club
competition won by Raheny Shamrock AC.

In the Masters Men’s race Tom Hunt was the only Mayo AC participant finishing just outside medal contention in the o60 age category
