Brilliant new World 4x800m record for Ireland W65 *

Today’s Dublin Graded meet 2 had a busy schedule of races. On the track there were events from 200m right up to 5,000m, and in the field discus, pole vault, javelin and triple jump. 


The meeting also included an Outdoor world record attempt by two women’s masters relay teams:

Ireland W45: Kelly Neely City of Lisburn AC, Zoe Quinn Raheny ShamrockAC, Denise Toner Clones AC, Maria Dunne St Laurence O’Tooles AC, looking to better the current record of 9:43.13 set by Australia in 2023

And Ireland W65: Pauline Moran and Mary Browne Mayo AC, Brigid McCabe Mullingar Harriers AC, and Noreen Bonner Finn Valley AC – attempting to beat the current W65 time of 14:49.29 set in Lexington, USA 30/07/2022.

Ireland W65 went into the race led by Pauline Moran holder of the current National W65 outdoor 800m record 2:56.58 from August 2023. She ran 3:00.06 in the National Indoors last January.

The two teams ran in the same event this afternoon.

Both ran fantastic races – and both beat the previous World records!

Ireland W65 smashed the USA time by almost two minutes, coming home in 12:59.94!

Congratulations to Pauline, Mary, Brigid  and Noreen – a wonderful achievement!

And Ireland W45 crossed the line in 9:40.76 – beating the previous record by two seconds.

Brilliant running by these Irish masters women athletes .

Well done too to Mary Jennings West Waterford for standing by as ‘first sub’.

*Both the W45 and W65 records are subject to ratification by World Masters Association.

Well done to Ronan Gately and the Dublin Athletics Board who organised the meet.

Two Connacht athletes also competed in the meet. Orlaith Mannion South Galway AC won the u18 100m hurdles in 14:48, and Gerard O’Donnell Carrick-on-Shannon AC ran 22:26 sixth place in a 200 metres.
