Brendan gets Connacht gold
Back in 2010 Brendan Hession was in the Fit4Life group at Claremorris. Towards the end of that year he took part in a Fit4Life 8k at Hollymount and led the field home in 33:05. Brendan joined Mayo AC shortly after that and like many members he’s been chipping away since at personal best times over a range of races from 5k upwards. This year Brendan broke through to a new level and achieved a load of personal bests and quite a few podium finishes including winning the Claremorris 5 mile in a 28:35 pb. He’s to be found in the lead training group alongside Sean Murphy on most Thursday evenings at Claremorris track under Matt Bidwell’s astute guidance, and their progress this year is due in no small part to Matt’s influence. A lot more of those attending the track sessions can say the same. Last week Brendan was there to receive his medal as winner of the Connacht Novice Cross Country title. Looking at the attached picture (thanks to Trisha Carty for the photo) it looks like there’s a mini tug o’ war going on there between himself and Sean Murphy who performed the presentation -they’ve had a few tussles on the roads this year too. Well done, Brendan!
