It was fine in Ballindine for the 6th Annual GYOT 4 mile on Saturday evening- Dave Huane’s unique fundraising event .This year’s event raised funds for Cystic Fibrosis – approximately 1300 euro. The ‘Guess your own time’ event was a tremendous success with a good turnout of 90 runners and 50 walkers on a beautiful, if slightly windy evening. Well done to Dave who had the excellent support of the local community, and his team were well supported again by Alan Burke, Maire Treasa Beatty, Ann McDonnell and Adrian Fitzmaurice plus many more helpers on and off the 4 mile course. There was the usual brilliant spread of refreshments afterwards – gratefully consumed by participants, supporters and organisers.
The winner who finished the race closest to his predicted time was James Malone from Hollymount –predicted 25:40, clocked 25:41 – just one second out. It was a close contest as the next four closest were just 2, 3 and 4 seconds outside their predictions. Race winner was John Byrne who continued his run of fine form and he was just three seconds out in a fast 21:45 (21:42). Siobhán McGinty from Achill also finished within three seconds 42:38 (42:41).
Ronan Kirrane was on local terrain and came home two seconds adrift in 26:13 (26:15) and Paddy Walsh finished four out in 24:30 (24:34). Colette Tuohy was first woman finisher in 24:42. There were numerous spot prizes on offer.
