Australian success for Sinead and Mags
The international theme continues in the weekend round-up with news from Australia. A couple of weeks ago we reported on the XCR ’15 Series in Victoria when the first event took place.
Belmullet native Sinéad Diver, our member at South Melbourne AC was in action again in the second race on Saturday.
It was a 4k race at Lardner Park over a challenging course with hills, ditches and fences. Sinéad looks to be in great form and she repeated her first place performance at Jells Park with a 14:40 finish, winning the Women’s Open race by four seconds in a field of 211. Well done, Sinéad!
Perth is located in Western Australia over 3,400 kilometres west of Melbourne along the long dusty National Highway AI. That’s more than 80 marathons John Byrne, if you’re getting any ultra ideas. Mags Glavey arrived on a family visit on Friday and was straight into action. Well, we know Mags doesn’t hang about. She ran in the Mother’s Day Classic, a national fundraising event in aid of Breast Cancer Research, with over 120,000 taking part across Australia. The Perth race was over 8k at Langley Park and started at 8 a.m in beautiful weather. Mags finished in 35:31, (what jet lag?) and should head the 60-69 category when results are published. That’s some running recently by our 65+ national medallist, who had a great 45 min 10k race last Sunday in Castlebar. We’ll update this in a couple of days when Mags gets more news.
The Classic is obviously a colourful occasion for all Mothers as this photo from the Hobart Domain event shows.
