There’s a difference with McDonnell …Ann heads for Claremorris 5k finish (2013)

In the final race of Swinford AC’s Spring Series we had nine finishers in the Foxford 5k. A fairly flat course by the banks of the Moy provided good opportunities for fast times. Tadgh McGinty (Swinford AC) led the field home in 16:56. Our runners followed in close behind with Anto Devaney 5th in 18:19. Paddy Walsh, Dominic Regan 19:19, Ambrose Gaughan, David Dinsmore 21:36,  Margaret Glavey, Mary Moylett, and  Owen Mongan were well up among the finishers. However, the star of the evening was Ann McDonnell. She checked and re-checked her watch as she crossed the finish line near the Woollen Mills in 20:45…a fantastic improvement and new PB. She ran 22:37 in Ballinrobe last July, we think that was her previous best. That’s a massive two minute improvement. Ann ran a PB last Sunday in Castlebar 10k in 47:15 and felt there was a lot more there. Now she has the answer. That 10k PB will surely not last long with this form, and she will be full of confidence heading for a hat-trick of PBs when she competes in an upcoming half marathon.Well done to our Secretary and Fit4Life leader who has trained hard for this deserved success! She’s certainly showing the way.

Timmie Glavey finished 4th in the second race of Galway’s 5k Series at Loughrea on Tuesday evening in 16:56 having come home in the same position the previous week at Athenry in an identical time.
