Andrew Hayes second in Tarmonbarry Half-marathon

There were three races (8k, half and 3/4 marathon) on three separate courses at Tarmonbarry today. The 39th annual edition was hosted by St Barry’s GAA  at their clubhouse on the N5 just outside the village alongside the River Shannon. It was a wet and breezy day for competitors and organisers.

The event has long been popular with Mayo AC members and has grown over the years, particularly with the addition of the 3/4 marathon.
Today we had six finishers.
The best performance came from Andrew Hayes who finished an excellent second in the Half-marathon in 1:24.33. He was 10th in the River Moy Half last May in 1:24.01.
Finishing times were very similar to yesterday’s Céide Half with the winner Mark Kenny posting 1:22.52, and first woman Emer Gaffey 1:32.57. 89 finishers.
We had three finishers in the 3/4 marathon: Gerry Kirrane came home in 9th place in 2:12.34 – great running, and a five minute improvement on his Swinford 3/4 time last month 2:17.34. He’s looking in good form for a sub 3hr marathon.
Next in was Tom McNicholas 2:41.29, Donna Gallagher 2:51.53 Julie Higgins 3:13.59 and Marcella McDonnell 3:14.00
3/4 winner was Peter Somba Dunboyne AC in 1:51.56, with Theresa Hughes first woman in 2:25.37.
144 finishers.
Congratulations to prizewinner Andrew and well done to all of our six finishers today in testing conditions.
