Board. Michael Donnelly Photography.The 2018 C & C Cellular/Vodafone Mayo Athletic Awards were hosted by Swinford Athletic Club in the Park Hotel, Swinford at the weekend. The awards honour athletes – young and not so young – from all over Mayo for their achievements on track and field, cross country nationally and internationally during the past 12 months. was a huge turnout of athletes, parents, and friends for what was, as always, an enjoyable occasion.
The awards were preceded by a gala dinner which was attended by over two hundred and twenty athletes, families, friends and supporters. Michael Oliver, Swinford Athletic Club who deputised for Chairperson Sen O’Connell welcomed all the function. He congratulated all the athletes on their national and international success. He also acknowledged the tremendous commitment and dedication shown by all the coaches who contribute so much to the development of the athletes. We are indebted to them for their hard work and for sharing their time and talent to nurture the athletes. He also stated that it was encouraging to see the number of athletes who participate for both competitive or leisure purposes continuing to grow. He welcomed new club Nephin Athletic Club to the athletic family. He thanked everybody who helped to make this event possible, especially our Sponsors, C&C Cellular/Vodafone, our hosts Swinford Athletic Club, Marion Mattimoe for collecting photographs and citations and Producing Certificates, Souvenir Booklet and tickets, his fellow County Board members, and the members of the various clubs who have assisted in any way. He also thanked the staff of Park Hotel for welcoming us and providing such fine facilities and food to all who attended. Thanks to Jennifer McCann and Moya Mulroy who read the citations. Sean O’Connell presented flowers to our sponsor Julie Chambers and Amanda Hynes presented flowers to Marion Mattimoe in appreciation of her contribution to the organisation of the function.
