The 4th Annual Belleek 10k took place today in excellent calm conditions after storm Desmond went on his wet and windy way, and was waved farewell by a couple of half rainbows on the horizon.
Jake O’Regan (St John’s AC, Co Clare) was the clear winner in 34:08, followed in second and third by Sligo AC pair Seamus Somers 34:41 and Damien Kennedy 36:11. Triathlete Lorraine Carey finished first woman and eighth overall in a personal best 39:43. Lucy Brennan (Sligo AC) was second in 40:41, with Claire O’ Boyle (Ballina) third in 43:42 – a great run in her first race since May.
The Mayo AC contingent were led home by Roger Barrett in 36:27, his first outing since the National Half Marathon in August. He was followed by Paul Reynolds 39:51, Tom Hunt 43:34, Clive Lavelle 44:43, Ann Murray 46:03, Pawel Lach 48:05, Monica Joyce, 49:16, Ann Marie Clarke 51:13, Finian Joyce, 54:33, and James Murtagh 61:19 – it was good to see James back on the road after the Dublin Marathon.
Well done to Brendan Murphy from Castlebar who had a great race and knocked well over a minute off his 10k PB to finish in 41:16. Like three of our Belleek finishers – Monica, Ann, and Finian – he’s a regular at the Lough Lannagh parkruns and hopes to join Mayo AC when 2016 registration opens in a few weeks.
It was a well organised event – fair play to Ann Egan and Michelle Reynolds and their committee, sponsors and marshals. The 5th Belleek 10k will take place on December 4 2016
