7th Annual Kilmovee 10k Provisional Results (updated)
Conditions were wet and windy for the 7th Annual Kilmovee 10k. The one lap course is recognised as flat and fast. Personal best times were difficult to achieve but there were some excellent finishing times nevertheless. Well done John Byrne who finished six seconds behind race winner Eamonn Staunton (winner of recent Carrowholly 5k). John came home in almost same time as 2015 when he was also second – 32:56. They fought it out towards the end with the Westport AC man coming home a deserved winner in 32:50. Third in 33:32 was last year’s winner Matt Bidwell (course record holder in 32:17) who won last Sunday’s Craughwell 10.
Well done also to the women’s race winner Catherine Conway (Mayo AC) 38:44, who improved on her Tubbercurry St Patrick’s Day 10k third place finish time by over a minute, and is showing great form on her return to racing. Colette Tuohy (Mayo AC) was third in a consistent 39:52 and one of 36 finishers in under 40 minutes.
There was also a welcome winning return for Timmie Glavey (Mayo AC) coming home first in the M35 category and fourth overall. Timmie also won the Teachers Competition – Michael McDonnell Memorial Shield Trophy on behalf of his school, Scoil Mhuire, Clarinbridge, Co Galway. Mayo AC had 6 finishers in the top twenty and a good turnout right through the field.
It was another brilliant day of event organisation by John Roddy and his team of over sixty volunteers. Well done to all our finishers – Mayo AC Club League tables for men and women will be updated shortly based on finishing places and any PBs from today’s race.
