4 Peak Challenge

Four members – Tom McNicholas, Colette Tuohy,  Tom O’Brien  and Barry Freeman- were part of a group who completed the 4 Peaks Challenge last weekend.

The 4 peaks challenge is generally classed as climbing the highest peaks in each of the four provinces of Ireland, namely : Carrauntoohil at 1040m of county Kerry in  Munster, Mweelrea at 841m in county Mayo – Connacht, Slieve Donard at 840m in county Down Ulster,  and Lugnaquilla 925m in Wicklow, Leinster.

They started at 8.00 p.m last Friday evening (June 28) at Mweelrea, then on to Carrauntoohil starting at just after 3 a.m. Next on to Lugnaguilla, and finally up to Slieve Donard. They finished all climbs up and down at 19.15 p.m Saturday – taking  23.15 hrs in total including travel.

The Challenge was in aid of LauraLynn Ireland’s Children’s Hospice and organised via the Ultra Cyclists/ Jonathan Caulfield with over €9,000 raised so far
