It was a bright and chilly 7°c on Sunday morning as the village of Hollymount welcomed athletes back for the 55th ‘real’ road races Like many recent events the Hollymount Road Races was contested virtually in 2020.
As usual the excellent local organising team were on duty at the Community Centre, delighted to see familiar faces pick up their bib numbers and Beanie hats, and welcome the traditional contingent from Liverpool. Neil Chester led their 12 competitors.
There was a combined total of over 100 in the two adult events.
The first race was the women’s 6k over two laps. The winner was by Maura Ginty (Sportsworld) leading from start to finish in 23:53. A great second lap by Angela O’Connor (Mayo AC) saw her move up the leading group for an impressive second place in 24:14. Third place on the podium went to Nicky Bird (Liverpool) 24:18.
