Well done to Breege Staunton first woman finisher in Saturday’s (Dec 3) Knock Trans -Agha-Mation 5k. Breege came home in 22:44 – a PB. She led home a Mayo AC top three women – Tracy Cunnane second in 24:04 and Maria Kneafsey third 24:25. Brendan Hession finished third overall in 19:18. Results: knock-pdf-1

*I recall coming down stairs on the first Sunday in December 1956 in time to listen to the 8am news on Radio Eireann (530 metres  medium wavelength). The historic news of Ronnie Delany’s Olympic gold medal win in the 1500 metres final raised the rafters all over Ireland. The race took place in Melbourne on Saturday December 1 at 4pm – it was midnight in Mayo. (* TH)
